DAYTON HUDSON NOVEMBER SALES UP 2.7 PERCENT
MINNEAPOLIS, Dec. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Dayton Hudson Corporation

(NYSE: DH) today reported that its net retail sales for the four weeks ended Nov. 30, 1991 increased 2.7 percent to $1.59 billion from $1.55 billion a year ago.
Comparable-store sales were down 3.6 percent from the same period a year ago, reflecting the unfavorable impact of seven fewer holiday shopping days in the November 1991 accounting calendar. On a calendar- adjusted basis, comparable-store sales were up about 5 percent for the month of November.
Stephen E. Watson, Dayton Hudson president, said "Sales for the month were consistent with the Fall season to date."
Watson said it will be most meaningful to look at November-December sales combined.
"We are confident the consumer is not cancelling Christmas. We also know that the sales will come later as the consumer is buying closer to need. This year's holiday season is clearly more competitive and more promotional."
November sales by business segment for the four weeks were as follows:
-- Target's total sales increased 6 percent while comparable-store sales were down 3 percent.
-- Mervyn's total sales were flat and comparable-store sales were down 5 percent.
-- The Department Store Division's total sales were down 2 percent and comparable-store sales were down 3 percent.
Sales for the 43 weeks ended Nov. 30, 1991 were $12.27 billion, up 9.1 percent from $11.25 billion in the same period a year ago. Comparable-store sales for the 43-week period were up 1.8 percent.
During the month, Target opened one store in Florida and one in California. Mervyn's opened three stores, all in Florida.
As of Nov. 30, 1991, Dayton Hudson operated 770 stores in 33 states.
