DAYTON HUDSON MAY SALES UP 10.6 PERCENT.

 Corporation today reported that its net retail sales for the four weeks ended May 27, 1995, increased 10.6 percent to $1.569 billion from $1.419 billion a year ago. Comparable-store sales were up 4.9 percent from the same period a year ago.

May sales by business segment for the four weeks were as follows: Target's total sales increased 13.9 percent and comparable-store sales increased 5.8 percent. Mervyn's total sales increased 3.5 percent and comparable-store sales increased 1.5 percent. The Department Store Division's total and comparable-store sales increased 6.0 percent.

Sales for the 17 weeks ended May 27, 1995, were $6.201 billion, up 7.0 percent from $5.795 billion in the same period a year ago. Comparable-store sales for the 17-week period were up 1.5 percent compared to the same period last year.

Dayton Hudson Corporation specializes in large-store general merchandise formats, including discount stores, moderate-priced promotional and traditional department stores. At month end, Dayton Hudson operated 973 stores in 33 states.
