DAY IN SPORTS C.P. WIN GIVES TITLE TO GRANT.

Having been a non-factor in the Sunset 6 League for most of the season, the Canoga Park High girls' basketball team made a big impact in the league race Wednesday afternoon, knocking North Hollywood out of title contention and giving Grant of Van Nuys the championship.

The visiting Hunters used 17 points by Elizabeth Sherman to upset the Huskies 49-47. Because of Canoga Park's win, Grant (undefeated in league) clinches the league title since it is two games ahead of North Hollywood with one game remaining.

Shermia Jackson added 12 points for the Hunters (12-10, 5-4).

Kaipresha Price had 26 points, 10 rebounds and six steals for the Huskies (16-8, 7-2) but the team was without leading scorer Richelle Sherman, who was academically ineligible.

In other girls' basketball:

--Grooms rocks the house: Jevay Grooms racked up a triple-double with 16 points, 32 rebounds and 12 blocks to lead visiting Kennedy of Granada Hills to a 68-45 triumph over Van Nuys in a Valley Mission League game. Grooms also had six steals and four assists. Linnae Barber added 24 points and 11 rebounds for the Cougars (14-7, 8-1). Gladys DelaTorre had 23 points for the Wolves.

In other girls' basketball:

--Crisp win gets title: Krystal Clay had 15 points and 10 rebounds as host Grant of Van Nuys cruised past Poly of Sun Valley 72-16 to help clinch the Sunset 6 League title. Deja Cruz added 14 points and Alexis Weatherspoon contributed 12 points and 14 rebounds for the Lancers lanc·er

--Mallen leads Panthers: Alex Mallen had 14 points to lead visiting Newbury Park (21-4, 11-0) to a 51-44 win over Moorpark (13-11, 5-7) in a Marmonte League The Marmonte League is a high school sports league primarily made up of schools from Ventura County. In boys' basketball:

--Cavs win tune-up: Anthony Harris Anthony James Harris (b. 26 June, 1982) in Dunedin. He is a New Zealand cricketer who has played for the Otago Volts in the State Championship and he also plays for Central Otago in the Hawke Cup.  (10 rebounds) and Quenton Harvey each had 13 points and four blocks as visiting Cleveland of Reseda defeated Birmingham of Van Nuys 63-48 in a West Valley League game. The Cavaliers (17-7, 8-1), who had 16 blocks and have won 10 of their last 11 games, will play Taft, a 72-60 winner over Chatsworth, in a league title showdown Friday at Cleveland.

--Brown-out: Cecil Brown had 31 points, nine rebounds and six assists as host Canoga Park knocked off North Hollywood 93-80 in a Sunset 6 League game. Jamie Harris Jamie Harris is a Welsh professional footballer currently playing for Scottish Premier League club Dunfermline Athletic.

Jamie began his football career at hometown club Swansea City in 1996.
 added 22 points and 12 rebounds for the Hunters (10-13, 3-6).

--Highlanders win: Midwin Francis had 16 points and visiting Granada Hills beat El Camino Real of Woodland Hills 68-57 in a West Valley League game. Justin Saad-Anthony had 30 points for El Camino Real (4-15, 0-9).

--Musketeers pull away: Jeff Illions had 14 points and Todd Tomlinson added 14 as visiting Moorpark (17-9, 6-6) held off Newbury Park (11-11, 4-7) 61-52 in a Marmonte League game. Matt Currie led Newbury Park with 15 points.

In girls' soccer:

--Easy win for Eagles: Alec deMattos scored two goals and visiting Chaminade of West Hills (16-5-1, 9-2) shut out Alemany of Mission Hills 5-0 in a Mission League game.

In girls' water polo water polo, swimming game encompassing features of soccer, football, basketball, and hockey. The object of the game is to maneuver, by head, feet, or hand, a leather-covered ball 27 to 28 in. :
