 North Hollywood and Grant high girls' basketball teams have battled tooth and nail for the Valley Pac-8 title. This season, although they are in a new league, the rivalry continues.

Both Grant of Van Nuys and North Hollywood opened up inaugural play in the Sunset Six League in impressive fashion Wednesday afternoon with Grant routing visiting Verdugo Hills 79-30 and North Hollywood knocking off visiting Hollywood 65-21.

For Grant (10-6, 1-0), Krystal Clay starred in the show, totaling 17 points and 20 rebounds. Leslie Mui added 16 points, becoming Grant's all-time leading scorer. Mui, who is also the team's all-time leader for assists (283) and 3-pointers (177), now has 976 points for her career. Alexis Weatherspoon led the Lancers lanc·er

For North Hollywood (10-6, 1-0), Richelle Sherman had a strong all- around performance with 18 points, 15 rebounds, six steals and five blocks. Kaipresha Price led the Huskies in scoring with 21 points while also recording five assists and five assists. --Winning at the line: Dax Grooms' two free throws with two seconds left gave host Kennedy of Granada Hills a 62-60 victory over San Fernando in the Valley Mission League opener for both teams. Grooms finished with 27 points and nine rebounds, while Mario Chacon added 15 points for the Cougars (8-8, 1-0).

In boys' soccer:

--Easy win for Rebels: Tizoc Cruz-Gonzalez had three goals during visiting Flintridge Prep of La Canada's 8-0 victory over CAMS of Carson in a Prep League game. Brothers Brian and Sean Pramovhad combined for six assists for the Rebels (4-5-4, 1-1).

In girls' soccer:

--Still undefeated: Host Reseda remained unbeaten after a 4-0 victory over Sylmar in the Valley Mission League opener for both teams. Irma Parra had two goals, while Adriana Huerta and Erika Martinez each added one for the Regents (4-0, 1-0). The Spartans (1-2-1, 0-1) managed just two shots on goal.

--Sweet revenge: Jessica Krell scored all three goals for host Buckley of Sherman Oaks (2-5, 1-3), which avenged a·venge
