DAY IN SPORTS; RIO MESA ROLLS PAST HUENEME.

Byline: Daily News

Talk about turnarounds.

When Rio Mesa High of Oxnard boys' soccer team started the season 1-6, it was hard to envision the Spartans turning things around in time to defend their Pacific View League title.

But the Spartans have done just that, and after defeating visiting Hueneme of Oxnard on Thursday afternoon, Rio Mesa still looks like the team to beat in league play.

Jimmy Heathcote and Chris High each had two goals to lead the Spartans to a 4-0 win over the Vikings. With the win, Rio Mesa (9-8-1, 4-1-1) remains in first place in league and has now won eight of its past 11 games. Hueneme falls to 5-7-2, 2-2-1.
