DAY IN SPORTS: WEATHERSPOON IS FORCE FOR GRANT.

They had their other star, Alexis Weatherspoon, to pick up the slack.

Weatherspoon scored 30 of her 34 points in the second half as Grant pulled away from the Sheiks for a 70-47 victory in a Sunset 6 League game at Hollywood.

Weatherspoon, who scored 18 points in the fourth quarter, also had six steals for the defending league-champion Lancers (10-7, 2-0). Clay added 21 points, 14 rebounds, four assists and three steals despite sitting out half of the third and fourth quarters.

Michelle Hariston had 10 points and 11 rebounds for Grant, which suited up just six players because of various injuries and illnesses.

--Rebels tumble: Pasadena Poly (13-4, 5-0) took over first place in the Prep League with a 48-32 win over host and previous co-leader Flintridge Prep (8-4, 4-1).

--Sherman paces Huskies: Richelle Sherman totaled 29 points and 14 rebounds to lead North Hollywood (9-8, 2-0) to a 58-29 win over host Poly (3-10, 1-1) in Sunset 6 League play.

--Norhiro sharp: Desiree Norhiro had 10 points, 12 assists and seven steals to pace visiting Monroe (7-5, 2-0) past San Fernando San Fernando, city, Argentina
