China McCarney outdueled Augie Detres on Monday, throwing a three-hitter with 15 strikeouts as Vasquez High of Acton beat visiting Santa Clarita Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Situated in the Santa Clara valley and nearby canyons, Santa Clarita includes the former towns of Canyon Country,  Christian of Canyon Country 1-0 in a nonleague game.

McCarney, who verbally committed to Cal Poly Cal Poly may refer to:

--Cleveland 112, Kennedy 50: Elliot Karlin won the 50- and 100-yard freestyles to lead host Cleveland of Reseda (7-0, 6-0), which went unbeaten in league dual meets for the fourth consecutive year.

--Granada Hills 130, Verdugo Hills 34: Lindsay Elam and Adriana Silva won two events apiece as Granada Hills (6-1, 6-0) captured the regular-season title at Van Nuys Sherman Oaks Park.

WEST VALLEY LEAGUE

--Cleveland 120, Kennedy 38: Chungah Rhee won the 100-yard butterfly and 200 freestyle as host Cleveland of Reseda (7-0, 6-0), the defending City Section champion, clinched the league title.
