DAY IN SPORTS: VALENCIA GETS OUT OF FUNK.Byline: Daily News After losing its first three baseball games, nationally-ranked Valencia High appears to be all the way back. The team hammered one of the area's top returning pitchers and got another fine pitching performance from right-hander Jared Clark during a 7-3 Foothill League victory at Saugus in front of a standing-room only crowd Saturday afternoon. Saugus left-hander Thomas Milone entered with a 1.27 ERA but lasted just 3 1/3-plus innings, as Valencia (4-3, 2-0) broke open a close game with five runs in the fourth inning. Such a large cushion was more than enough for Clark. The 6-foot-4 senior struck out 11 - including five of the last nine he faced - in a complete- game seven-hitter. A group of major-league scouts in attendance clocked Clark's fastball at 89 mph. ``We've put those first three games behind In sports, the phrase games behind, often abbreviated as GB in tables, is a common way to reflect the gap between a leading team and another team in a sports league, conference, or division. us and moved on from there,'' second baseman second baseman n. It helps because we know we can pass the rope and everyone is going to get the job done,'' O'Sullivan said. Valencia, coming off a 15-3 victory over Burbank in Friday's league opener, has scored 28 runs over the past three games. Saugus right-hander Scott Wischnack relieved Milone and didn't allow a hit in 3 2/3 innings. But with Clark (2-0) on the mound, Saugus (5-2, 1-10) knew it was going to be difficult to rally from a six-run deficit. Sure enough, the team managed just one hit over the final 3 2/3 innings. ``It was tough. Milone (2-0) drove in a run with a double on a hit-and-run play in the first, and he also scored on Gary Finley's fourth-inning single. - Gerry Gittelson IN OTHER PREP BASEBALL Redondo Tournament --Camarillo 19, Downey 9: Donald Brown Donald E.
