USC's Bobby Paschal entered Saturday's nonconference baseball game against Mississippi State struggling, having won once in his previous four starts. By the day's end, however, any thoughts of a sophomore slump were all but erased.

The Chaminade of West Hills graduate threw 6 2/3 scoreless innings, scattering five hits, walking three and striking out five for USC in a 3-0 victory, its second in its past two games, against the 22nd-ranked hosts at Dudy Noble Field Saturday.

--CSUN 7, Nevada 5: Cal State Northridge trailed 5-3 to begin the top of the ninth but rallied for four runs to win at Peccole Park in Reno, Nev.

--UCLA 4, Nebraska 2: Casey Janssen remained undefeated in five starts by pitching eight innings of four-hit ball with five strikeouts for visiting UCLA (12-7) in a victory at Petco Park.

--Pepperdine 4, UC Irvine 1: Mike Craig hit two solo home runs and Jacob Barrack and Steve Kleen combined on a five-hitter in a win for host Pepperdine (6-9).

--Washington 6, LMU 3: With the game tied 3-3 in the eighth, reliever Kyle Huddy gave up three solo home runs and visiting Loyola Marymount (11-6) never recovered and lost at Husky Ballpark.

--Thousand Oaks 2, Lancaster 1: Thousand Oaks' Chris Hannick led off the bottom of the seventh with a walk and was replaced with pinch-runner Rob Pesceone, who scored the game-winning run on a Colin Lavoe flyball to right field in the Lancers' victory at home.

--Chaminade 12, Antelope Valley 0: Casey Haerther's grand slam keyed a nine-run fifth inning for host Chaminade of West Hills (3-1-1) in a game that was called after the fifth inning due to the mercy rule.

Greg Lenardson pitched a no-hitter, striking out 10 and walking none.

--Notre Dame 8, Malibu 1: Robert Dickmann was 4 for 4 with three doubles and three RBI for host Notre Dame of Sherman Oaks (4-1), which scored five of its runs in the first two innings.

Dickmann wasn't the only one to have a good day at the plate. Teammate Andrew Tapia was 2 for 3 with two doubles and three RBI.

--Calabasas 2, Alemany 0: Drew Saberhagen hit a two-out, two-run home run in the top of the eighth for Calabasas (4-0-1) in its extra-inning victory over host Alemany of Mission Hills (2-3).

--L.A. Baptist 10, Canoga Park 0: Graham Miller and Brad Rice each hit home runs and Mike Aragon finished 2 for 3 with an RBI for host L.A. Baptist of North Hills in a five-inning game.
