DAY IN SPORTS: TAFT TOPPLES CHATSWORTH; TO FACE MONROE.

Chris Yoon and Tu Nguyen both went 3-1 in singles to help ninth-seeded Taft of Woodland Hills upset top-seeded Chatsworth 15 1/2-14 in the second round of the City Section tennis tournament Thursday at Chatsworth.

The victory advances the Toreadors (6-13) to an Invitational Division semifinal matchup with fifth-seeded Monroe, which beat fourth-seeded Westchester 20-9 1/2.

In other Invitational matches, No. 3 Cleveland defeated No. 11 Poly 18 1/2- 11 and No. 2 San Pedro got past No. 7 Belmont 17-12 1/2.

Scott Macdonald was a member of the Canadian band The Spoons, from the mid 80's to the early 90's and a few reunion concerts in the late 90's and early 2000's.
