DAY IN SPORTS: T.O. LEFT BRUISED BUT UNBEATEN.

Byline: Daily News

Because of their 2-0 victory Friday over Royal High of Simi Valley Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969. , the 20 members of the second-ranked Thousand Oaks Thousand Oaks, residential city (1990 pop. 104,352), Ventura co., S Calif., in a farm area; inc. 1964. But only senior midfielder Kurtis Lindsey has the face to show for it.

Lindsey delivered a perfect right-footed free kick that Miguel Morales headed past Royal's Logan Redlin to put the visiting Lancers lanc·er

ahead 1-0 six minutes into the game. The reward came moments later, though, when Lindsey was flattened on a midfield run and had to leave the game.

During the sequence, Lindsey had his face accidentally stepped on and needed five minutes of treatment before walking off the field. He sported a black eye, swollen cheek and chipped tooth after the game. But after Thousand Oaks improved to 9-1-2 overall and 4-0-2 in league, he couldn't have been happier.

``It feels good,'' Lindsey said. ``This was probably the best game we've played in a little while. It's nice to say (we're unbeaten in league) because we've played some pretty decent teams to get here.''

Morales headed in his second goal of the evening and 13th of the season with seven minutes remaining in the first half.

Royal, ranked No. 9, successfully pressured Thousand Oaks throughout the second half but could not break through. Josh Van Sloten narrowly missed with 18 minutes left for the Highlanders (8-4-4, 2-1-3), who have scored just one goal in their past four games.
