Unranked La Canada knocked off its second-ranked girls' volleyball team of the week Thursday night, sweeping past No. 4-ranked Notre Dame Notre Dame IPA: [nɔtʁ dam] is French for Our Lady, referring to the Virgin Mary. Kelly Guadino led the Spartans (3-0) with 18 kills and four aces. Matadors tumble: Amber Thom had career highs of 21 kills and 12 blocks to lead Northern Arizona (5-2, 1-0) past visiting Cal State Northridge 17-15, 15-17, 15-5, 15-11 in a Big Sky Conference women's volleyball opener for both teams. Laura Szymanski had 23 kills, 11 digs and seven blocks to lead Northridge (1-2, 0-1).
