DAY IN SPORTS: SURPRISE: COX LEADS QUARTZ HILL TO 24TH STRAIGHT WIN.

Jodie Cox homered, drove in four runs and scored four times, leading Quartz Hill High to its 24th straight softball victory with a 17-7 five-inning Golden League mercy win over visiting Littlerock on Thursday.

Cox's ninth home run landed approximately 75 feet past the left-field wall and tied her own school single-season record. The returning Daily News Player of the Year has 26 career home runs, two short of Jenny Dalton's (Glendale High) all-time record.

The Mustangs (37-14) were eliminated from the tournament.

Aaron Penberthy had a two-run home run and an RBI double for The Master's.
