Ben Orloff's two-out single in the bottom of the ninth inning scored Mario Colletto with the winning run as Simi Valley Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969.  High outlasted Kennedy of Granada Hills 16-15 on Saturday in the first round of the Redondo baseball tournament.

Casey Haerther homered and Jim Rapoport doubled twice for Chaminade, which led 3-0 in the first inning.

--Crespi 12, Westlake 3: Trevor Plouff homered twice and drove in six runs as visiting Crespi of Encino (7-0) got the nonleague victory over 10th-ranked Westlake (5-2). Winning pitcher Nick Clark went 3 for 4 and homered for Crespi (7-0).

In prep softball:

--Birmingham 11, Nordhoff 0: Winning pitcher Pauline Morquecho homered and struck out eight in a three-hitter and Valerie Montenegro hit her third triple of the day as Birmingham of Lake Balboa (8-2) finished 4-0 in the Lincoln tournament. Montenegro tripled twice during a 4-for-4, three-RBI effort in a 14-0 victory over Garfield of Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  earlier, when Morquecho pitched a two-hitter and Candace Williams and Julie Garcia doubled.

--Canoga Park 6, Monroe 0: Christina Balady tripled and Riane Johnson, Angie Vargas and Savanah Webb doubled as Canoga Park (8-2) finished 3-1 in the Lincoln tournament. Stacy Milne got her second pitching victory of the day, after a one-hit, 10-0 win over Roosevelt of Los Angeles, and had two hits in each game.

--Burroughs 7, Lompoc 3: The second victory of the day earned Burroughs of Burbank fifth place in the Simi Valley tournament, after a 6-0 win over Notre Dame Notre Dame IPA: [nɔtʁ dam] is French for Our Lady, referring to the Virgin Mary. In the United States of America, Notre Dame  of Sherman Oaks. Val Rico led Burroughs, going 8 for 8 on the day with seven RBI. Ryanne Hodgins was 6 for 8 with six runs, and pitcher Dani Regan won both games with a combined 11 strikeouts.
