DAY IN SPORTS: SHIRES IS PERFECT FOR CHATSWORTH.

The Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  High girls' softball team won't soon forget its encounter with Cassie Shires of Chatsworth.

The left-handed Shires pitched a perfect game Thursday as the Chatsworth High girls' softball team defeated the visiting Romans 11-0 in its season opener.

Shires, one of six seniors, struck out 16 of the 21 batters she faced. She struck out the side in four of the six innings.

 2: Jessica McGivney was 2 for 2 with a home run and three RBI for Verdugo Hills in the nonleague victory. Teammate Danielle Burch pitched a complete game five-hitter with nine strikeouts.

--Viewpoint 188, Milken 202: Viewpoint's Nick Geyer entered the nonleague match at Westlake golf course Westlake Golf Course is a 18 hole regulation length golf course located in Westlake Village, California, USA. It is an 18-hole course designed by Ted Robinson, ASGCA in 1964. It features 5,080 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 67. The course rating is 63.  as an upstart freshman just hoping to do well in his first varsity experience. < And when the 14 year-old was finished, he earned medalist honors by way of shooting a 2-under par 32.

``He's going to be our top player and perhaps one of the top players (in the region),'' Viewpoint coach Greg Armbrister said of Geyer, whose low round included four birdies, three pars and two bogeys. ``He's really solid, has a great short game and in the fairway every time. He's our most consistent low scorer.''

Teammates Kas Rahbar and Anoop Shah each shot a respectable 38 for the Patriots (1-0).

--St. Francis 204, Flintridge Prep 206, La Canada 208: In a nonleague match, Grant Haney of St. Francis of La Canada and Branden Shin of La Canada tied for medalist honors with low rounds of 37 at the par-36 Brookside golf course Brookside Golf is a multi-course golf facility located in Pasadena, California. The facility offers two courses, the longer C.W. Koiner Course (Course #1) and shorter E.O. Nay Course (Course #2). .

--Camarillo 379, Agoura 395, Moorpark 436: Kyle Dowden shot an even par 71 for Camarillo in the Marmonte League The Marmonte League is a high school sports league primarily made up of schools from Ventura County. Matt Jaffe shot 77 for Agoura and Chris Blum had 83 for Moorpark.
