Paraclete goalkeeper Travis Sharp had eight saves in his third shutout of the season to lead the Spirits of Lancaster (3-1-1) to a 5-0 nonleague victory Wednesday over visiting Tehachapi.

The Spirits' offense was equally impressive, outshooting Tehachapi 24-8 and receiving goals from Danny Diaz, Keith Lambert, Tim Lanski, Tony Vigil and Mike Zarvos.

--Best for Beck: Oak Park sophomore Brandon Beck shot 77-72-159 to take second place in the age 13-15 division of a weekend Junior Tour event at Singing Hills GC in San Diego. It was Beck's best finish in a national tournament. Westlake High sophomore Jason Wilk was third at 81-74-155. The Singing Hills event was the fifth of 16 nationwide stops on the Junior Tour, endorsed by the U.S. High School Golf Association and recognized as one of the nation's premier winter competitions for junior golfers.

In men's basketball:

--Vaqueros win opener: Marc Walters scored 18 points, Eskias McDaniels 15, Michael Schnyder 11 and Sean Stroud 10 to lead Glendale College (7-5) past L.A. Trade Tech 70-68 in the first round of the Glendale tournament.
