Byline: Daily News

AnnMarie Summerhays doesn't shoot often, but she picked a good time to be aggressive in Saugus High's 60-58 victory over Valencia in Foothill League girls' basketball game Tuesday.

``That was a huge play,'' Saugus coach Eric Olsson said. ``She basically just took us on her shoulders and said, `Let's do this.' ''

Valencia (17-6, 3-4) cut the lead back down to two as Tamaiya Smith hit a 5-foot jumper The simplest form of an on/off switch. Kelley Tarver then forced a Saugus turnover near midcourt on the next possession and the Vikings called a timeout to set up their final play.

Valencia coach Jerry Mike designed a play to go to Smith, who finished with a game-high 21 points, but Saugus (18-5, 6-1) denied her the ball and Jessi Loring blocked Tarver's 3-point attempt at the buzzer.

``The team has come a long way, but we just didn't bring it tonight,'' Mike said.

Saugus' Taylor Lilley scored a team-high 19 points, all in the first half.
