Sotomayor was declared ineligible last week and was held out Friday against Westlake. The Southern Section still was awaiting paperwork Tuesday that would determine whether Sotomayor's transfer was legal under section rules.

At issue is the fact that Sotomayor did not come to the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. Sotomayor would not be eligible if he competed in Peru, Wigod added. Sotomayor came to the U.S. in late January and said he was a former member of his country's junior national team.

The section also was investigating Tuesday whether a violation occurred when Sotomayor swam in Saturday's Royal Invitational. Sotomayor competed unattached in two events, taking second in the 100-yard backstroke, but already had been declared ineligible.

Royal's boys' team is undefeated in league competition this season but could face potential forfeits should Sotomayor be ruled ineligible.
