 Royal High of Simi Valley Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969.  boys' volleyball team finds itself fighting for its playoff life. But the Highlanders took a big step toward solidifying their postseason future with a 15-2, 11-15, 15-4, 15-9 victory over host Moorpark on Friday.

Ryan Upmeyer had 16 kills and Jeremy Scharf had 39 assists for the Highlanders (17-6, 5-3), who are tied with Thousand Oaks Thousand Oaks, residential city (1990 pop. 104,352), Ventura co., S Calif., in a farm area; inc. 1964. Avocados, citrus, vegetables, strawberries, and nursery products are grown.  for third place in league and play Westlake and Simi Valley next week, both of whom are tied for first place.

Royal's Jordan McPherson picked up the save in her first appearance since injuring her arm two weeks ago.

--L.A. Baptist 5, Maranatha 0: Katie Gustaveson was overpowering, striking out 12 and walking three en route to her second no-hitter of season in an Olympic League victory for host L.A. Baptist of North Hills (10-4, 3-1).

--Thousand Oaks 10, Simi Valley 7: Chad Lundahl went 3 for 4 with two home runs for visiting Thousand Oaks (17-6, 7-4), which remained in the midst Adv. 1. in the midst - the middle or central part or point; "in the midst of the forest"; "could he walk out in the midst of his piece?"
