DAY IN SPORTS: ROYAL GETS PAST KILIONSKI, T.O.

Thousand Oaks needed a big game from senior pitcher Mandy Kilionski on Thursday against Royal of Simi Valley, and she delivered a two-hitter over eight innings.

Unfortunately for the Lancers, those two hits came in the bottom of the eighth, when No. 2 Royal of Simi Valley pulled out a 1-0 victory over visiting and No. 4 Thousand Oaks.

The win allowed the Highlanders to keep pace with Westlake for second place in the Marmonte League and extended their lead over Thousand Oaks (7-4-1, 4-3-1) and Newbury Park to three games.

Tori Dario led off the eighth with a bunt single, advanced to third on a single to center field by Heather Erickson and scored on Devon Hofland's sacrifice fly to right.

Kilionski finished with 12 strikeouts, allowing the two hits and a walk. Royal's Jordan McPherson earned the victory after relieving Kirstie Kenton with one out in the seventh. McPherson struck out four of the five batters she faced.

Royal (11-4, 6-2) has won five consecutive league games in a row.

--San Fernando 1, Monroe 0: Selena Salazar threw her third no-hitter this season, striking out 15 as San Fernando (15-3, 5-0) remained atop the Valley Mission League.

In prep baseball:

--Chatsworth 3, Birmingham 2: Jared Kops was hit by a pitch with one out in the seventh inning and the bases loaded to score the game-winning run and keep the perfect record intact for host and nationally ranked Chatsworth (15-0, 6-0).

--Crespi 9, St. Francis 1: Chris Gonyea, normally a reliever, pitched a complete-game one-hitter in his first start of the season for visiting Crespi of Encino (10-2, 3-2) in a Mission League game.

In boys' tennis:

--Montclair Prep 12, Maranatha 6: Mike Golikov lost his first game of the year, but host Montclair Prep of Panorama City (7-4, 6-0) prevailed, clinching the program's first Alpha League title in its history, which spans more than 50 years.

In boys' golf:

--L.A. Baptist 201, Montclair Prep 235: Jimmy Anderson and Paul Ma both shot even-par 36 for L.A. Baptist of North Hills (12-2, 5-0) in an Alpha League match at Porter Valley Country Club.

In girls' track:

--Canyon 76, Valencia 60: Alysia Johnson won three individual events - the 200 meters, 400 meters and long jump - to help host Canyon (5-0, 3-0) win its 65th consecutive dual meet.
