Byline: Daily News

As expected, the Marmonte League The Marmonte League is a high school sports league primarily made up of schools from Ventura County. The Marmonte Leauge is part of the CIF Southern Section. Perhaps shocking, though, is this: Royal isn't one of them and Westlake is.

The hosts were eliminated by Hart when the Indians scored a penalty kick in the closing moments of regulation to tie the game at 2-2, then advanced on penalty kicks 6-5.

Westlake (3-5), with just 13 players, beat Alemany 2-0 behind goals by Inmer Gonzales and Christopher Finley, then tied Garey 1-1 and advanced on penalty kicks 4-3. Mike Moll scored the Warriors' goal.

Hart (10-2-1) also wasn't at full strength - three substitutes and two junior varsity junior varsity

Jared Bazar, returning this week from the football team, showed he's already in soccer-playing shape by scoring both goals against Chaminade. Against Royal, Mike Long scored in the first minutes of the second half, and Chris Ciccone scored the late penalty kick in regulation.

Westlake coach Bill Propster made perhaps the day's best coaching decision, pulling his goalie in favor of the bigger Conrad Hees for the penalty-kick phase. Hees made two saves, and the Warriors will meet Rio Mesa on Monday at 9:30 a.m.
