Jose Esquivel earned an assist on the game-winning goal as the host Indians handed the Quartz Hill boys' soccer team a 2-0 loss, its first of the season, on Tuesday.

``Overall, we played pretty well,'' Hart coach Louis Romero said.

Hart, the defending Foothill League champion, got two goals from junior striker Matt Valaika, one in each half. Esquivel's long kick helped the Indians (4-0) to their first goal, just six minutes in, which Valaika headed past Rebels keeper Garrett Stone.

It was the first goal Quartz Hill (4-1-1) allowed this season.

``They pretty much expect my kick to go long,'' Esquivel said.

Quartz Hill's best scoring opportunity came midway through the second half when forward El Shaddai El Shaddai (Hebrew: אל שדי) is one of the Judaic names of God. Literally meaning "God of the mountain", it is normally translated "God Almighty".  Bent headed a ball that looked like it would go over Esquivel's hands and in.

--Oak Park 3, Rio Mesa 1: Oak Park coach Ted Eggleston knew after three consecutive 1-0 losses, it was only a matter of time before his team found its offensive rhythm.

Oak Park (2-3) did so in the second half of Tuesday's game, scoring twice in a three-minute span before letting Vera Eastman and Whitney Steininger take over on defense en route to a victory against host Rio Mesa of Oxnard (0-3-1).

Rachel Levine, who scored Oak Park's first goal in the 17th minute, broke a 1-1 tie in the 58th minute when her corner kick caromed off the back of a Rio Mesa defender and into the net for an own goal. Tatiana Camacho and Samantha Stoll teamed up a short time by setting up Amy Nevers with a pass near the back post, which she tapped into an open net.
