and Glendale played evenly for the first half-hour of Tuesday's Western State Conference women's soccer game.

Kim Quijano and Irene Hernandez, however, changed all that in an 11-minute span of the second half.

Quijano scored on an outlet pass from Angie Monterroso in the 31st minute, then Hernandez scored on a lob (1) See BLOB.

pass from Jenna Graffam in the 42nd minute as the floodgates opened for Pierce (16-1-3, 13-1-1) in a 4-0 victory over the visiting Vaqueros (12-6-1 overall).

``Once we scored that first goal, we really broke their morale,'' said Quijano, who scored twice, giving her 13 goals on the season.

With the teams coming off a 2-2 tie late last month, Pierce got a huge conference victory that all but clinches a conference championship for the Brahmas in their second year of women's soccer.

``This was the biggest game (we've had),'' said Pierce coach Adolfo Perez, whose team held a one-point lead over second-place Glendale entering play Tuesday and now has a four-point lead with two conference games remaining.

Freshman midfielder Tricia Arosemena, who had missed the last two games while playing for the Panaminian National team, was a catalyst in many of the Brahmas' scoring chances, with precision passing and tough defense.

``It was great to have Tricia back,'' Perez said. ``She's like a linebacker playing soccer. I would not want her to defend me.''

Brahmas goalkeeper Kim Morgan made 13 saves and recording her 16th shutout of the season.
