DAY IN SPORTS: PETTWAY SAILS FOR SYLMAR.

Sylmar High girls' track and field athlete Cameo Pettway set a personal best Friday by sailing 33 feet, 11 inches to win the triple jump in a Valley Mission League meet against visiting Kennedy of Granada Hills.

With Kennedy leading 42-41 going into the final event of the afternoon, Sylmar's Brittany Irving, Jene Brazil, Eja Whong and Seyram Gbewonyo combined for a 4-minute, 41-second finish (11 seconds in front of Kennedy) in the 1,600-meter relay to earn a 46-42 come-from-behind victory.

Earlier, Gbewonyo and Irving won the 100 and 400, respectively. Pettway also won the high jump at 4-6 and led the 400 relay team to a first-place finish Noun 1. first-place finish - a finish in first place (as in a race)
win - a victory (as in a race or other competition); "he was happy to get the win"
 for Sylmar (2-2, 2-1).

In the boys' meet, C.J. Gable, Julio Marshall and Rigoberto Rincon both won two events as Sylmar (2-2, 2-1) beat Kennedy 76-34.

Juan Jimenez had 12 kills and eight blocks for Sylmar, which won with scores of 25-23, 25-19, 21-25, 25-12. Kennedy falls to 6-6, 6-3.
