Crescenta Valley The Crescenta Valley is a small inland valley in Los Angeles County, California. Its name derives from its crescent-like shape, with the convex portion facing roughly northeast and the concave portion southwest.  High junior Meredith Cervenka struck out 10 and pitched a perfect game Thursday in a 4-0 Pacific League softball softball, variant of baseball played with a larger ball on a smaller field. Invented (1888) in Chicago as an indoor game, it was at various times called indoor baseball, mush ball, playground ball, kitten ball, and, because it was also played by women, ladies'  win over host Hoover. Cervenka and the No. 2-ranked Falcons improved to 13-1 and 2-0 in league. Cori Herbert struck out six in a four-hitter for the Tornadoes (5-8, 0-2).

--Westlake tumbles: Alicia White of Agoura threw out a runner at the plate and made several spectacular catches to keep her team in contention, and the Chargers (8-8, 3-4) capitalized on Amanda Oleson's 11th-inning run to defeat No. 8-ranked Westlake 1-0 in Marmonte League The Marmonte League is a high school sports league primarily made up of schools from Ventura County. --Cougars roar: Briana Mathiesen tripled and drove in two runs in a 3-for-3 performance to lead an 18-hit Kennedy attack as the Cougars (13-3, 4-0) defeated Van Nuys 19-3 in Valley Mission League play. Lina Gutierrez added three hits and two RBI RBI

--Another shutout: Nima Roshan swept at No. 1 singles as No. 5-ranked Granada Hills (9-1, 6-1) recorded its eighth shutout of the season, defeating Birmingham 7-0 in West Valley League play.
