DAY IN SPORTS: NYDAM NEARLY PERFECT FOR VILLAGE CHRISTIAN.

Byline: Daily News

L.A. Baptist of North Hills moved up to No. 1 in the Southern Section Div. V softball softball, variant of baseball played with a larger ball on a smaller field. Invented (1888) in Chicago as an indoor game, it was at various times called indoor baseball, mush ball, playground ball, kitten ball, and, because it was also played by women, ladies'  rankings for the first time all season this week, but their reign likely will be short-lived after a 7-0 loss to visiting Village Christian of Sun Valley on Tuesday afternoon.

Village Christian pitcher Lauren Nydam was one infield single away from a no-hitter, finishing with a one-hit shutout and nine strikeouts as Village Christian (10-5, 4-0) moved into first place in the Olympic League.

L.A. Baptist fell to 8-4, 3-1.
