DAY IN SPORTS: NOTRE DAME EARNS CROWN.

Cody Pearson had 16 points and 15 rebounds as the Notre Dame Notre Dame IPA: [nɔtʁ dam] is French for Our Lady, referring to the Virgin Mary. --Kennedy 54, Reseda 36: Jevay Grooms led the Cougars of Granada Hills (9-10, 4-5) once again with 26 points, 14 rebounds, 10 blocks and seven assists in a Valley Mission League win at Kennedy.

In boys' soccer:

--Poly 8, Verdugo Hills 2: Sammy Moya was unstoppable, scoring six goals for the Parrots of Sun Valley (8-8-1, 5-3-1) in a Sunset 6 League game at Verdugo Hills of Tujunga.

--L.A. Baptist 4, Village Christian 0: Jared Thornton had three goals and Robbie Krohn added a goal, his 19th on the year, and three assists for the Knights of North Hills (12-5-4, 4-3-1) in an Alpha League game at Village Christian of Sun Valley (2-6 in league).

--Highland 2, Quartz Hill 0: Sergio Perez and Danny Marquez both scored for the Bulldogs of Palmdale (9-10-3, 4-4-1) in an upset of the Rebels (7-1-1 in league) in a Golden League game at Highland.

In girls' soccer:

--Oak Park 5, Fillmore 0: Allison Bernstein and Ashley Walsh each had a goal and an assist for the Eagles (17-6, 9-0) who clinched the Tri-Valley League title with a win at Oak Park.

In men's volleyball:

--UCLA d.
