DAY IN SPORTS: NAKANISHI, ST. FRANCIS BEAT CRESPI.

The spotlight figured to be on Crespi of Encino senior Peter Bomar and his counterpart for St. Francis of La Canada, junior Tashi Nakanishi. And the two who are among the Mission League's top goalkeepers in boys' soccer ended up stealing the show in Wednesday night's league opener.

St. Francis prevailed 1-0 at home as Nakanishi stopped seven shots to record his 10th shutout in 16 games. He came off his line to stop Crespi's Ian Duffy, who beat an offside off·side   also off·sides

, Bomar kept Crespi (4-4-5) in the game despite relentless pressure in the first half. He made a spectacular save 23 minutes in, diving to push Luke Postlewaite's point-blank shot the shot of a gun pointed directly toward the object to be hit.

Postlewaite scored the only goal with 6:36 left in the first half. The senior took a cross from Robby Dow and drilled it past Bomar to give St. Francis (14-2) - ranked in the top 50 nationally - the only goal it needed.

--Westlake 5, Newbury Park 0: The Marmonte League The Marmonte League is a high school sports league primarily made up of schools from Ventura County. The Marmonte Leauge is part of the CIF Southern Section. Click here to view the league schedule.  game was scoreless until the final five minutes of the first half, when goals by Christina DeVries and Carrie Murphy propelled Westlake (6-0-1, 3-0) to the victory at home.

--Royal 0, Calabasas 0: Though it outshot its opponents 10-3, visiting Royal of Simi Valley Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969.  (6-5-2, 1-1-1) was unable to come away with the Marmonte League victory.

--Notre Dame 2, Alemany 0: Tina Torres and Amanda Diedrich each scored as Notre Dame Notre Dame IPA: [nɔtʁ dam] is French for Our Lady, referring to the Virgin Mary. In the United States of America, Notre Dame  of Sherman Oaks (9-5, 2-0) recorded its school-record sixth consecutive shutout in a Mission League victory at Alemany of Mission Hills.

In boys' basketball:

--North Hollywood 68, Granada Hills 67: DeAndre Lamar scored 23 points, including the game-winning 15-footer with less than three seconds remaining, to seal a nonleague victory for visiting North Hollywood.

--Loyola 97, Harvard-Westlake 87: Bryce Taylor's career-high 40 points weren't enough as host Harvard-Westlake of Studio City (11-5, 1-1) lost the Mission League game to Loyola of Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  (11-3, 1-0), which got 25 points from Omar Wilkes.

In men's basketball:

--Antelope Valley 95, Mt. San Jacinto San Jacinto, river, c.130 mi (210 km) long, rising in SE Texas as the West Fork and flowing S to Galveston Bay. --CSUN 121.5, Loyola Marymount 78.5: Freshman Suzie Matevosian, a Grant High of Van Nuys graduate, placed first in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:14:56 as the visiting Matadors evened their dual-meet record at 3-3.
