DAY IN SPORTS: N.P. STAYS PERFECT IN LEAGUE.

Byline: Daily News

Batting behind Oli Keohohou, Newbury Park sophomore Nancy Pabon will get plenty of good pitches to swing at. The question has been: Will she take advantage?

Pabon certainly did Thursday, getting three hits and an RBI RBI

The Panthers (14-3, 5-0) stay alone in first place. Simi Valley (10-4, 2-2) has lost two straight.

Pabon, who sat out all of last year as a freshman, moved into the No. 2 spot behind Keohohou just before Newbury Park started its league schedule. Pabon's success has allowed the Panthers to keep Keohohou at leadoff, which negates opponents' pitching around her at least once a game.

Pabon had two singles and a double against two Simi Valley pitchers. Her RBI single in the fifth put Newbury Park ahead for good 3-2. The Panthers broke things open in the seventh with three run on a hit and three errors to make it 6-2.

``When the coaches moved me to number two in the order it showed they had confidence in me,'' Pabon said. ``I've just tried to get the job done ever since.''

Simi Valley was forced to use three players at different positions because of injuries and personal matters. Starting pitcher Noun 1. starting pitcher - (baseball) a pitcher who starts in a baseball game
