Thousand Oaks advanced runners to second and third in the top of the 17th but Ellement struck out Megan Spehar to end the threat.

--Alemany 9, Notre Dame 4: Ray Ravago hit his sixth home run of the season, finishing 3 for 4 with three RBI as Alemany of Mission Hills (9-3, 2-1) remained atop the Mission League standings with a victory at home.

--Harvard-Westlake 8, Quartz Hill 5: Jason Glushon pitched a complete game and his teammates hit three home runs as visiting Harvard-Westlake (7-3) defeated Quartz Hill (8-2) in a nonleague game.

--Saugus 7, Canyons 6: Bret Finley led off the top of the eighth with a single and came across with the game-winning run on a Jeff Knosp squeeze bunt as Saugus (4-4-1, 1-2-1) upset Canyon (7-2, 3-1) in a Foothill League game.

--Hart 10, Burbank 3: Kyle Boggio, Nate Maddox, Chris Valaika and Cole Valancius each had two hits for Hart of Newhall (5-5, 2-2), which moved back into the Foothill League race with a victory at home.

In boys' golf:

--La Canada 170, Gabrielino 231: Chris Henley fired a 4-under par round of 31, highlighted by four birdies, for La Canada in a Rio Hondo Rio Hondo may refer to:

--Canyons 2, Bakersfield 1: Carly Caldaronello hit one of her two doubles with the bases loaded and two outs in the fourth, driving in what proved to be the winning runs for Canyons (26-4, 11-0). The Cougars regained first place in the Western States Conference with the victory against host Bakersfield (26-10, 14-2).

--Bussey is back: Blaine Bussey, a Taft of Woodland Hills graduate and a former 400-meter state champion, has joined the Cal State Los Angeles track and field team after competing at Long Beach Community College a season ago.
