DAY IN SPORTS: MOORPARK ON MOVE DUCLOS' FAMILY TIES MAKING THE DIFFERENCE.

Moorpark High's girls golf team is receiving early title consideration in the always-tough Marmonte League The Marmonte League is a high school sports league primarily made up of schools from Ventura County. The Marmonte Leauge is part of the CIF Southern Section. Click here to view the league schedule. , and the Musketeers played up to that billing Tuesday with a 237-245 nonleague victory over fellow Marmonte power Westlake.

Jami Duclos, daughter of coach Jody Duclos, shot 41 and Kate Hanson 42 to lead Moorpark (2-0) at par-35 Elkins Ranch Golf Course, where Ashley Freiberg of Westlake shared medalist honors at 41.

Lauren Kelsey added a 46 for Westlake (0-1), which is considered to be another of the primary challengers for this year's Marmonte title, along with Calabasas and defending league champion Agoura.

``We hope to have a solid team'' said Jody Duclos, who directed the Musketeers to the 2001 league title with another of her daughters, current Moorpark College Moorpark College is a California-state funded community college located on a 134 acre (542,000 m²) property reclining on a hill in Moorpark, a town in Ventura County, California.  student Shannon Duclos, leading the way. ``We don't have too many standout players this year so it's going to be different.''

Jody Duclos' Musketeers played solid enough to record what is believed to be a school course record Tuesday at Elkins Ranch, when Jami Duclos and Hanson both had birdies.

In other girls' golf:

--Burroughs 231, Burbank 260 Grace Woo of Burbank shot 2-under-par 29 to earn medalist honors but Kelli Lowers, Tara Trammel and Jenn Jennings each had rounds of 45 as Burroughs of Burbank won the Foothill League match at El Cariso Golf Course.

Rose Pearson (48), Danie Caffey (48) and Hayley Petzold (51) also contributed for Burroughs (2-0), which had 25 fewer strokes than it did in its season opener last week.

--Saugus 249, Hart 270: Melanie De Leon shot 42, Stephanie Aston 45 and Jill Shatkus 47 to lead Saugus in a nonleague meeting of Foothill League rivals at par-36 Valencia Country Club.

Jen Brown paced Hart (1-1) with a 49. Keshia Peris shot 51 and Stephanie Ponek 54 for Hart, which won three consecutive league titles before Saugus won last year.

Faith Baptist 3-1: Host Faith Baptist of Canoga Park had a difficult time stopping Julie Rubenstein, a 6-foot-3 outside hitter who had 10 kills and two block assists for visiting Oaks Christian of Westlake Village in its 25-20, 25-17, 23-25, 25-18 season-opening nonleague victory.

--Notre Dame d. St. Monica 3-0: Meredith Rice had 18 kills and Kayce Matthess had 34 assists in a 25-15, 25-10, 25-10 nonleague victory for visiting Notre Dame Notre Dame IPA: [nɔtʁ dam] is French for Our Lady, referring to the Virgin Mary. In the United States of America, Notre Dame  of Sherman Oaks (2-0).

--Oakwood d. Buckley 3-0: Allie Costa had 17 kills and four aces and Nicole Boddicker added 27 assists but their efforts came up short as Buckley of Sherman Oaks lost 25-20, 25-17, 25-20 in a nonleague game on the road.

--Canyons 1, Mission 0: Sara Sanchez played well, stopping 11 shots but visiting Mission (1-4, 0-1) was unable to mount any offense in the Western State Conference opening loss.
