Gabriel Guzman was just a skinny freshman when Manuel Ruiz Manuel Ruiz Pérez (born December 3, 1962 in Jerez de la Frontera) is a Spanish football coach and former player.

During his football career, he played for several clubs including his childhood club Xerez CD, UD Melilla and Sanluqueño.
 won his second consecutive City Section championships for Monroe of North Hills in 2002, but he wasn't too young to learn from him.

Guzman, a junior, is a prohibitive favorite to win the City title Nov. 20 at Pierce, but he said he'll probably have to shave at least 10 seconds off his time Wednesday to do so.

Ruiz ran 15:22 as a junior and 14:54 as a senior to win his two City titles.

``He's clawing toward where (Ruiz) was,'' Monroe coach Dean Balzarett said. ``I think he can still run faster than he has. But he's good enough to do it.''

--Bell-Jeff 48, Cantwell-SH 22: Bell-Jeff scored the first 30 points on its way to winning the Sante Fe League, its first outright title in 50 years.

Adrian Antema scored the first two touchdowns for Bell-Jeff (9-1, 4-0) on runs of 1 and 36 yards. Joey Diaz gained a game-high 97 yards on 15 carries.

Derek Leiphardt also scored touchdowns on runs 14 and 52 yards.
