The Granada Hills High girls' tennis team clinched its eighth consecutive West Valley League title with Wednesday's 7-0 victory over visiting Cleveland of Reseda (10-3, 8-2).

Singles players Jessica Nguyen Jessica Nguyen was born on November 24, 1987, and she is a tennis player for Stanford University. College career
As a freshman she had a 14-2 record in singles, including an unblemished 9-0 mark in dual matches.
, Christine Dao, Canna canna [Lat.,=cane], any plant of the genus Canna, tropical and subtropical perennials, grown in temperate regions in parks and gardens for the large foliage and spikelike, usually red or yellow blossoms.  Furuta and Yuka Otaka, along with doubles team partners Tracey Takeshita/Ramya Sreepathi, Robin Meselson/Randi Levine and Nancy Ngo/Jessica Linder, contributed to the win for the Highlanders (13-0, 10-0).

Otaka, who plays No. 3 and 4 singles, hasn't lost a game in 14 matches this season. The Highlanders haven't lost at home since 1995.

``Our singles players are extremely strong and I've always said that if our doubles teams comes around this season we would be tough. In other girls' tennis:

--Van Nuys 5, Sylmar 2: With an 8-5 victory over Sylmar's Anna Araujo, Fontip Seeboonruang improved to 9-1 in singles play this season and helped Van Nuys (9-4, 8-2) clinch Clinch, river, c.300 mi (480 km) long, formed by the junction of two forks in SW Va., and flowing generally SW across E Tenn. to the Tennessee River at Kingston.  its first Valley Mission League title in three years.

In boys' cross country:

--Tri-Valley Finals: Chase Ferrell and Taylor Hermes of Oak Park finished first and second in 16:09 and 16:13 over the 3-mile Oak Canyon Park course and teammate Ken Brook was fourth in 16:41 to lead the top-ranked team in Southern Section Division IV to its fifth consecutive boys' league title.

In girls' cross country

--Alpha League Lauren Dvoracek of Village Christian finished with a record time of 19:13 to win individual honors at the 3-mile O'Melveny Park Course. L.A. Baptist of North Hills, however, won the team event with 32 points, followed by Village Christian of Sun Valley (43) and Paraclete of Lancaster (51).

--In boys' water polo water polo, swimming game encompassing features of soccer, football, basketball, and hockey. The object of the game is to maneuver, by head, feet, or hand, a leather-covered ball 27 to 28 in. :

--Crespi 10, Notre Dame Notre Dame IPA: [nɔtʁ dam] is French for Our Lady, referring to the Virgin Mary.
