DAY IN SPORTS: LATE HEROICS LIFT LANCASTER, CANYON.

Byline: Daily News

The Lancaster High baseball team isn't relaxing this spring break.

The Eagles (8-4) continued a successful vacation Monday beating Etiwanda 4-3 on the second day of the Arcadia High tournament.

Lancaster built a 3-0 lead but allowed Etiwanda (7-6) to rally and tie the score in the sixth inning.

Lancaster's Brett Jacobs broke the tie with a game-winning single in the bottom of the seventh inning that scored Greer Grashaw (2 for 2, two walks). Jacobs finished 3 for 4 with a run scored.

Jason Canning (2-0) earned the victory and he was unable to hold the lead in relief of starter Josh White. White left the game with a runner on second base and one out in the sixth inning, but the runner eventually scored on a sacrifice fly.

Lancaster, which beat Troy of Fullerton 9-3 in the tournament's opening round Saturday, plays Bell Gardens at 4 p.m. today. A victory will put Lancaster in the tournament's championship game at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Arcadia High.
