Former Cal State Northridge football coach Jeff Kearin has accepted the head coaching position at Loyola High of Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850. , according to according to

Kearin, 44, coached at Brophy Prep in Phoenix the last two seasons.

Kearin graduated from Loyola in 1978 and was an assistant for the Cubs from 1980-1990. He was the coach at CSUN CSUN California State University Northridge  from 1999-2001, but left when the school eliminated its football program.

He replaces legendary Loyola coach Steve Grady, who retired on March 2 after 29 seasons.

--Los Gatos 5, Harvard-Westlake 4: Harvard-Westlake of Studio City, the Daily News' top-ranked team, had a 4-3 lead, but fell in the quarterfinals of the sixth annual National High School Tennis All-American Tournament - hosted by Corona del Mar of Newport Beach Newport Beach, residential and resort city (1990 pop. 66,643), Orange co., S Calif., on Newport Bay and the Pacific Ocean; inc. 1906. It is a popular seaside resort and yachting center. Manufactures include electrical and medical equipment, computers, boats, and adhesives.  - at Costa Mesa Tennis Center.

Harvard-Westlake - which defeated Waccamaw, S.C., 9-0 in the opening round - was without Jordan Abergal (family commitment). The team was also forced to play with Josh Lederman serving underhand, as he was nursing an injured shoulder.
