To pitch a no-hitter is one thing. To pitch two is something else. But to pitch two in a row?

That's what Village Christian softball pitcher Jessica McIntosh did Friday afternoon.

McIntosh pitched her second straight no-hitter, striking out 10 in the Crusaders' 13-1 victory over host Desert Christian of Lancaster in a nonleague game stopped after five innings because of the mercy rule A mercy rule, also well known by the slightly less polite term slaughter rule (or, less commonly, knockout rule and skunk rule), brings a sports event to an early end when one team has a very large and presumably insurmountable lead over the other team. .

McIntosh (9-5), a freshman, threw a no-hitter in Village Christian of Sun Valley's win over Pasadena Marshall on Thursday.

--Patriots win in own tourney: Graham Winter had two RBI and Jose Carrillo had two hits as Birmingham of Van Nuys defeated Los Angeles 5-1 in the Birmingham High tournament. Winning pitcher Patrick Roark (2-2) had five strikeouts for the Patriots (16-8).

In boys' track:

--Toreadors win title: Visiting Taft of Woodland Hills won the West Valley League title after posting a 70-57 victory over Cleveland. Chris Morgan won three events for Taft (7-0, 5-0), placing first in the 110-meter high hurdles, the 300 intermediate hurdles and the long jump. Fred Williams (100 and 200) and Daniel Clemens (1,600 and 3,200) each won two events for Taft. Cleveland falls to 5-2, 3-2.

--Vikings stay unbeaten: Hector Mendoza won four events and Leon Buchanan won three as visiting Monroe of North Hills (7-0, 5-0) remained undefeated with a 99-28 win over Sylmar (3-4, 2-3) in a Valley Mission League meet. Mendoza won the 400 in 54.28 seconds, the long jump with a mark of 18 feet, 11 inches and was part of the winning 400 and 1,600 relay teams. Buchanan won the 800 in 28.55, the 1,600 in 4:41.73 and was part of the 1,600 relay team that won.

In boys' volleyball:

--Roy, Bly lead Patriots: Ken Roy had 17 kills and five blocks and Derek Bly added 10 kills, 13 assists and seven digs as visiting Viewpoint of Calabasas (11-3, 6-3) knocked off Oakwood of North Hollywood 15-12, 15-11, 12-15, 15-6 in a Liberty League match.

--Team effort: Tyler Meek led a balanced Simi Valley attack with eight kills in the visiting Pioneers' 15-7, 15-13, 15-9 win over Agoura in a Marmonte League match. Ryan Meek and Justin Tavares each added seven kills and Zach Hughes had 36 assists for Simi Valley (11-2, 8-2).

In boys' tennis:

--Scorpions sting in singles: Camarillo won eight of nine singles sets en route to an easy 15-3 win over host Oxnard in a Pacific View League match. Sean Carroll and Justin Tong both swept in singles for the Scorpions (11-4, 5-2).

In men's volleyball:

--Brahmas advance to finals: Lance Walker had 28 kills as Pierce advanced to the finals of the California Community College Men's Volleyball Championships with a 4-15, 15-11, 15-2, 15-7 win over Grossmont at Irvine Valley College Irvine Valley College (IVC) is a community college in Irvine, California and it is a part of the California Community Colleges system. Irvine Valley College and its sister college, Saddleback College in Mission Viejo, comprise the South Orange County Community College . Pierce (14-4) plays Golden West tonight for the championship at 7 p.m.
