DAY IN SPORTS: HALIDAY'S 30 ISN'T ENOUGH FOR HILLCREST.

Sometimes too much is not enough.

That lesson was learned by Hillcrest Christian High of Granada Hills' Ryan Haliday in the Heritage League boys' basketball opener Thursday night at Milken Community in Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850. .

Haliday's 30 points were not enough to spark the offense in a 58-55 loss.

Hillcrest Christian (7-5, 0-1) is the No. 2-ranked team in Southern Section Div. V-AA.

--Faith Baptist 64, L.A. Lutheran 44: Clay Collins scored 23 points to spark visiting Faith Baptist of Canoga Park in the Heritage League opener at L.A. Lutheran of Sylmar.

Corey Brockamp had 21 points for L.A. Lutheran (6-5, 0-1), which let a 22-22 halftime tie slip away in the third quarter when it was outscored 19-9 by Faith Baptist (3-7, 1-0).

Nonleague

--South Gate 66, Canoga Park 63: Junior Rodriguez Henry Rodriguez, Jr. (born in 1935 or 1936) is a local politician from St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana, in the Greater New Orleans area. He is of IsleƱo descent and is registered as an Independent. He served as Councilmember on the St.  scored 23 points and had 18 rebounds for host Canoga Park (6-8).

Aaron Perry added 16 points for Canoga Park.

Mission League

--Chaminade 73, Flintridge Sacred Heart The Sacred Heart is a religious devotion to Jesus' physical heart as the representation of the divine love for humanity

This devotion is predominantly used in the Roman Catholic Church and also used in the Anglican Church.
 41: Kelly Cochran scored 22 points, pulled down 10 rebounds and recorded five assists as visiting Chaminade of West Hills won the Mission League opener at Flintridge Sacred Heart of La Canada.

Danielle Livingston scored 12 points and added nine rebounds, and Kenna Frazier had six points and four assists for Chaminade (10-7, 1-0).

--L.A. Lutheran 35, Faith Baptist 22: Nathalie Richards scored 14 points and Stacy Atanansov added 10 for host L.A. Lutheran (8-2, 1-0) in a Heritage League opener at home.

Fairfax tournament

--Grant 62, San Fernando San Fernando, city, Argentina

 54: Andrea Chavez scored 20 points and teammate Ashley Murray added 11 as Grant of Van Nuys won its first game of the season.

Grant (1-4) took a 29-20 halftime lead, good enough to overcome the fact San Fernando outscored Grant 34-33 in the second half,

Nonleague

--Scott Academy 75, First Lutheran 24: Scott Academy of Saugus combined for 26 steals in the victory over First Lutheran of Sylmar.

Starkisha Overby had 20 points and four steals, and teammate Royce Elam had 10 points and eight steals for Scott Academy (7-5).

BOYS' SOCCER

Heritage League

--Milken 5, Hillcrest Christian/GH: Michael Larkin and Brent Sherman Brent Sherman (born May 24, 1974), a resident of Wauconda, Illinois, is a driver in the NASCAR Busch Series. Sherman’s route to the NASCAR was not like that of most drivers. After high school, he completed a six-year enlistment in the U.S.  scored two goals each as Milken of Los Angeles won the league opener in a game at Balboa Park Balboa Park is the name of several municipal parks, including the following:
  • Balboa Park, San Diego, California, United States
  • Balboa Park, San Francisco, California, United States
  • Balboa Park, Encino, California, United States
  • Anthony C.
. Ben Heins also scored a goal for Milken.

GIRLS' SOCCER

Nonleague

--L.A. Baptist 6, St. Bonaventure 2: Kristy Krohn scored four goals and Breanna Thornton added two as L.A. Baptist of North Hills (10-1) won.

Kristin Dyer had four assists for L.A. Baptist.

GIRLS' WATER POLO water polo, swimming game encompassing features of soccer, football, basketball, and hockey. The object of the game is to maneuver, by head, feet, or hand, a leather-covered ball 27 to 28 in.  

Prep League

--Mayfield 14, Flintridge Prep 6: Tiffany Kim scored four goals and Nina Brooks recorded six saves, but it wasn't enough for host Flintridge Prep of La Canada (1-8, 0-2).

Nonleague

--La Canada 10, Santa Monica Santa Monica (săn`tə mŏn`ĭkə), city (1990 pop. 86,905), Los Angeles co., S Calif., on Santa Monica Bay; inc. 1886. Tourism and retailing are important, and the city has motion-picture, biotechnology, and software industries.  4: Jen Jorgensen scored five goals and Kate Spence recorded seven saves for host La Canada.
