Cochran, Saturday's matchup with Harvard-Westlake of Studio City hardly had the makings of a critical Mission League girls' basketball game.

But for a game that wasn't supposed to be big, Harvard-Westlake's 65-53 victory certainly turned out to be a good one.

The Wolverines led only 39-37 at the start of the fourth quarter as they struggled with Chaminade's height and physical style of play.

But as they have so often this year, the second-ranked Wolverines (17-2, 4-0) turned up the intensity with a full-court press full-court press

and outscored Chaminade 26-16 in the fourth quarter.

``Our defense started everything,'' said Harvard-Westlake freshman YoYo Greenfield Greenfield, town (1990 pop. 18,666), seat of Franklin co., NW Mass., at the confluence of the Deerfield and Green rivers, near their junction with the Connecticut; settled 1686, set off from Deerfield and inc. 1753. , who scored a game-high 22 points and had five assists and four rebounds.

For Harvard-Westlake, it was the third Mission League game that has come down to the fourth quarter, and the Wolverines have won all three by making free throws.

Chaminade (12-8, 3-1) could not say the same. For the game, the Eagles were only 8 of 15 from the line.

``We had a hard time setting up our offense because they pressed all game and forced us to rush a lot of shots,'' said Cochran, who had a team-high 17 points, nine rebounds, three blocks and three steals.

``We were in it the whole game, but we didn't handle their intensity on the press well in the fourth quarter.''

Much of Harvard-Westlake's intensity came from senior Stefanie Clark Stefanie Clark (born November 10, 1980 in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island as Stefanie Richard) is a Canadian curler. She throws lead rocks for Suzanne Gaudet. , who had 18 points, 10 rebounds and six steals. Also key for the Wolverines was senior center Amanda Maddahi, who had four points and 15 rebounds.

``This is definitely the best rivalry in the Mission League,'' said Clark, who has signed a letter of intent to play at Washington next year. ``We keep switching off who wins.''

Chaminade is the defending league champion, and the teams tied for the title two years ago. Kenna Frazier had 11 points and five steals for Chaminade.

``It was a great game,'' Chaminade coach Kelli DiMuro said. ``We try to teach our girls to be aggressive and to push the ball forward every time, but we just had too many turnovers in the fourth quarter.''
