A memorial service will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday in the Glendale High library for former Glendale track and cross country coach John Barnes John Barnes is the name of several people:
  • John Andrew Barnes, III (1945-1967), U.S. Army Medal of Honor recipient
  • John Barnes (Australian politician) (1868-1938), Australian politician
, who died of cancer last month at age 74 in Suffolk, Va.

--Flintridge Prep d. Westridge 3-0: Lyndsay Fletcher had 24 kills and Melissa Pearson 43 assists as visiting Flintridge Prep of La Canada defeated Westridge of Pasadena 25-9, 25-20, 25-20.

 3-0: Olayinka Rahman had 10 kills, Sharr Siasom 12 digs and Madelyn Bustos 25 assists for visiting Valley Alternative of Van Nuys.

--Camarillo d. Santa Paula 3-0: Karissa Hookstadt's 46 assists, three kills and two aces helped Camarillo to a 25-14, 25-9, 25-13 victory over visiting Santa Paula.

GIRLS' TENNIS

--Reseda 6, Birmingham 1: Julie Teng and Lily Stapornkul each won singles matches 8-0 as Reseda defeated host Birmingham of Lake Balboa.

Reseda (1-0) also got strong play from its doubles team of Rashmika Satyarthi and Mariya Stepanenko, who won their match 8-1 over Birmingham's Taylor Stokes and Shelena Jodiantara.

--Chatsworth 7, Monroe 0: Jennifer Phan, Andrea Park and Annie Luong all won singles matches for host Chatsworth (1-0).

Christina Dong and Laura Hwang of Chatsworth got an 8-1 doubles victory over Melodie Kruspodin and Sesilya Faravoar of Monroe of North Hills (0-1).
