The Cleveland High baseball team, ranked No. 5 by the Daily News, opened the season with eight consecutive nonleague victories and appeared ready for West Valley League play.

--North Hollywood 12, Oxnard 4: Junior Mike Rodriguez pitched a complete-game five-hitter and was 3 for 4 with double and three RBI at the plate for North Hollywood (4-3) in a first-round game at the Redondo tournament.

In prep softball:

--Oaks Christian 5, St. Bonaventure 0: Sara Radabaugh pitched a one-hitter with 15 strikeouts and Tiffany Day was 3 for 4 with three RBI for host Oaks Christian of Westlake Village (10-1) in a nonleague victory.

--Chaminade 1, El Camino Real 0: In the first inning, Shannon Barceloux singled and scored the game's lone run on a double by Christina Lupacchini for the hosts in the nonleague victory.

It is an 18-hole course designed by Ted Robinson, ASGCA in 1964. It features 5,080 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 67. The course rating is 63.  in the nonleague victory for Agoura (6-3).
