The Eagle Rock boys' tennis team left no room for error Thursday against No. 5 Taft of Woodland Hills in the second round of the City Section championship playoff bracket.

No. 2 singles player Luigi Aquino defeated Taft's Kevin Ismaili 7-5 to clinch the 15-14 1/2 victory for the fourth-seeded and host Eagles, who advance to Monday's semifinal match at El Camino Real El Camino Real (Spanish for The Royal Road or The King's Highway) was the name of a series of pre-automobile highways linking the various New World colonies of Spain:

In prep softball:

--Granada Hills 1, El Camino Real 0: Kat Walsh pitched a no-hitter, striking out 13, and Kelly Zakosek hit the game-winning single in the eighth inning as host Granada Hills (22-5, 8-2) defeated West Valley League champion El Camino Real (9-1 in league) for the first time since the 1995 City Section playoffs.

Thurston finished 73-72-72-69-286 to win by five shots over Jameson Lovell of Simi Valley Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969. . Brett Perry (third at 293) and Tom O'Hara Tom O'Hara was the first native of the U.S. state of Illinois to break the four-minute barrier for the mile run. He accomplished this feat in 1963 when he ran the mile in 3:59.4. He also held the record for fastest mile in indoor track, which was set when he ran the mile in 3:56.  (sixth at 305) led Westlake.

--Olsson interview: Former Saugus High girls' basketball coach Eric Olsson is scheduled to interview for the vacant coaching position at Clovis West High this weekend. Olsson was the Daily News Coach of the Year in 2002 and led Saugus to the Southern Section Div. I-A quarterfinals in 2003, then retired at the end of the season.

Clovis West, one of the top programs in the Central Section, will submit its choice to the school board Wednesday and introduce their new coach at a news conference Thursday.
