DAY IN SPORTS: CRESPI TOPS LOYOLA WITH RELAY VICTORY IN LAST EVENT.

It came down to the final event, the 400-meter relay, of Wednesday's swim meet between Crespi of Encino and Loyola of Los Angeles.

At the end, Crespi's Collin Flinders, Brock Roverud, Ryan Martin and Daniel Parlato combined for a first-place finish that gave the Celts an 89-88 victory over the Cubs - Crespi's first victory over Loyola since 1080 - in a Mission League meet at Valley College.

Parlato recorded first-place finishes in the 100 butterfly and 500 freestyle while helping to a 1:49.10 first-place finish in the 200 medley relay. Martin took home top places in the 100 freestyle and 50 freestyle and Roverud, a freshman, won the 100 backstroke at 57.31.

In prep baseball:

--Quartz Hill 6, Lancaster 5: Matt Ware struck out eight and allowed five hits through five innings as he stopped Lancaster in his first start for host Quartz Hill in a Golden League game.

The Rebels (11-5, 5-1) nearly threw away Ware's shutout effort as they allowed the Eagles (2-4 in league) to score five runs in the final two innings to pull within one run.

Ware, a sophomore who has been used mainly as a reliever, helped his cause by hitting a double and scoring a run.

In prep softball:

--Oaks Christian 10, Cornerstone Christian 0: Sara Radabaugh recorded 14 strikeouts and allowed one hit as the visiting Lions of Westlake Village improved to 3-0 in Condor League play and 13-1 overall.

Ashlee Veilleux was 4 for 4 with two RBI.

--Notre Dame 3, FSHA 0: Notre Dame of Sherman Oaks pitcher Rachel Barraza had to rely on her defense as she GOT three strikeouts in a two-hit performance in a Mission League opener.

The Knights (8-4, 1-0) were ignited offensively by catcher Katy Wilkins who was 3 for 4 with two RBI. Stephanie Butler had a 2-for-4 performance and scored two runs for Notre Dame.

In boys' golf:

--Cleveland 170, Sylmar 198: Eric Lavin took medalist honors with a 2-over-par 36 in a City 4-A match at Woodley Lakes GC as the Cavaliers of Reseda stayed undefeated (8-0). Teammates Jason Baral (5-over-par) and Noah Bernstein (8-over-par) ensured the victory for Cleveland.

Jorge Martinez had a 11-over-par 36 for Sylmar (5-3).
