DAY IN SPORTS: CRESCENTA VALLEY SUSPENDS NINE FOOTBALL PLAYERS.

Byline: Daily News

When Crescenta Valley The Crescenta Valley is a small inland valley in Los Angeles County, California. Its name derives from its crescent-like shape, with the convex portion facing roughly northeast and the concave portion southwest.  High takes aim at the fourth league football title in the school's 39-year history tonight, the Falcons will do it without nine players now on suspension.

Falcons head coach Alan Eberhart said Thursday he could not comment on the school's investigation or on who was suspended, other than to say the action was taken for violations of team rules.

A published report said the suspensions followed alleged misuse of a credit card belonging to a brother of one of the players, resulting in a reported $700 in charges at gas stations. The report said law enforcement is not involved.

Eberhart said the Crescenta Valley (7-1, 3-0) team, ranked No. 6 by the Daily News, was shaken by the suspensions but is trying to focus on tonight's Pacific League game with Pasadena (3-5, 2-1) at Pasadena City College.

``Reaction has been OK,'' Eberhart said. ``Obviously, it hit us very hard, but we have to be ready to play. We told them the Falcons are taking the field and we're going to play for the league championship.''

A win would earn Crescenta Valley a tie for the league title. The Falcons' only other league titles came in 1973, '76 and '97.
