DAY IN SPORTS: CRESCENTA VALLEY RINGS UP HITS FOR BELL.

Freshman Trevor Bell Trevor Bell is an abstract painter, associated with the St. Ives group. Born in Leeds, England in 1930, he studied at the Leeds College of Art. In the early 1950s he was a leading member of the artists working in St. Ives.  struck out nine and Aaron McGuiness hit a home run as Crescenta Valley The Crescenta Valley is a small inland valley in Los Angeles County, California. Its name derives from its crescent-like shape, with the convex portion facing roughly northeast and the concave portion southwest.  High of La Crescenta (5-1) rolled past visiting Monrovia 10-2 Tuesday in nonleague baseball at Stengel Field in Glendale.

Brett Nichols and Brett Atkins added doubles as the Falcons totaled 11 hits to help starter Bell improve to 2-0. Bell exited with an 8-0 lead and no-hitter through five innings.

--Westlake 0, Royal 0: The teams settled for an 11-inning tie in a Marmonte League The Marmonte League is a high school sports league primarily made up of schools from Ventura County. Chrissy Zappia struck out seven in a three-hitter for Newbury Park (3-5-1, 0-1).

--L.A. Lutheran 17, Buckley 1: Jana Landis went 4 for 4 with two home runs, including a grand slam, and drove in six runs for the Lions of Sylmar (3-1) in a nonleague victory over the host Griffins of North Hollywood (0-3).

In boys' volleyball:

--Viewpoint d. Oakwood 3-0: Matt Mosko had 14 kills, Andrew Chezever 12 kills and 14 assists and Spencer Sherman 10 kills and 15 assists for Viewpoint of Calabasas (4-1, 1-0) in a 15-6, 15-3, 16-14 Liberty League- opening victory over the Gorillas of North Hollywood.

--La Salle 175, Viewpoint 192: Blake Moore shot 5-under-par 29 to lead the Lancers lanc·er

--Flintridge Prep 210, Salesian 242: Freshman Chris Linick led the visiting Rebels of La Canada Flintridge (3-3, 1-0) with a 41 in a Prep League opener at par-36 Whittier Narrows The Whittier Narrows is located at the southern boundary of the San Gabriel Valley, in Los Angeles County, California. It is a gap in the Puente Hills where the Rio Hondo and the San Gabriel River converge. . Cesar Sanchez of Salesian (0-1, 0-1) was medalist at 36.

--Chatsworth 151, Taft 165: Josh Lottman recorded an eagle from 50 yards on the par-5 second hole en route to shooting even-par 36 for Chatsworth (3-1), which got 37 from Brett Potter and Jamie Moises in a City 5 League victory at Encino. Eric Toback shot 37 to pace Taft of Woodland Hills.

--Chaminade 203, Loyola 206: Garret Sullivan, Cameron McCarter, Sean Morishita and Ryan McNulty all shot 40 to help host Chaminade of West Hills (4-1) edge the Cubs of Los Angeles in a Mission League match at par-35 Woodland Hills.

--Harvard-Westlake 196, Alemany 211: Scott McDonald shot even-par 35 and Nick Jannick 37 as the Wolverines of Studio City (4-1) defeated the Indians of Mission Hills in a Mission League match at Porter Valley CC.
