One day after pitching a no-hitter against Kennedy of Granada Hills, El Camino Real's Melissa Coogan threw five more no-hit innings to get the win in the Conquistadores of Woodland Hills' 12-0 victory over Monroe of North Hills Wednesday in a nonleague softball game at El Camino Real El Camino Real (Spanish for The Royal Road or The King's Highway) was the name of a series of pre-automobile highways linking the various New World colonies of Spain:

Coogan (5-2), who had seven strikeouts, has not allowed a hit in her last 13 innings and has given up just one hit her last 20 innings.

--Agoura 12, Oak Park 2: Brandon Canning allowed two hits and struck out eight for the Chargers (5-2) in a nonleague win over the visiting Eagles (2-1-1) that was stopped after five innings because of the mercy rule A mercy rule, also well known by the slightly less polite term slaughter rule (or, less commonly, knockout rule and skunk rule), brings a sports event to an early end when one team has a very large and presumably insurmountable lead over the other team. . --USC 4, San Diego 3: Brian Barre's steal of home in the bottom of the ninth lifted the Trojans (14-8), ranked 10th and 13th in the rankings, to a 4-3 nonconference win at USC's Dedeaux Field.

With the bases loaded, two outs and Bill Peavey batting, Barre broke for home and dove head-first, beating the tag attempt of Toreros catcher Luis Diaz Miron.
