DAY IN SPORTS: COCHRAN SPARKS CHAMINADE.

Freshman Kelly Cochran scored 12 of her game-high 23 points in the fourth quarter Tuesday night to lead Chaminade High of West Hills to a 77-68 victory over Notre Dame Notre Dame IPA: [nɔtʁ dam] is French for Our Lady, referring to the Virgin Mary. In the United States of America, Notre Dame  of Sherman Oaks in a Mission League girls' basketball opener at Notre Dame.

Cochran added six blocks, and school career-scoring leader Christina Zdenek had 21 points for Chaminade (11-6, 1-0).

In other girls' basketball:

--Bell-Jeff 61, Serra 42: Junior guard Jennae Peoples had 26 points, eight steals and five assists to lead the Guards of Burbank (12-3, 2-1) to a Camino Real League victory at home.

--Saugus 61, Canyon 34: Julia Bradley and Jessi Loring scored 17 points apiece to help the Centurions (15-2, 2-0) win their 13th consecutive game in a Foothill League matchup at Canyon (9-9, 0-2).

In boys' basketball:

--Pasadena 52, Crescenta Valley The Crescenta Valley is a small inland valley in Los Angeles County, California. Its name derives from its crescent-like shape, with the convex portion facing roughly northeast and the concave portion southwest.  49: Jimmy Goffredo scored 22 points and Chris Tarne added 15 for the Falcons of La Crescenta (11-6, 0-1) in a Pacific League-opening loss at Pasadena (11-4, 1-0).

--Hart 4, Burbank 0: Mike Caso Mike Caso is an American football (soccer) player born in Newhall, California on July 13, 1984. Currently a developmental player for the Los Angeles Galaxy, he joined the Galaxy in July, 2007 after playing at the University of San Diego, scoring 22 goals in four years.  scored twice and Kyle Raynish earned his ninth shutout of the season as the No. 8-ranked Indians of Newhall (11-3-4, 1-0-1) won a Foothill League match at Burbank.

--Burroughs 3, Canyon 1: Ceasar Corzo scored twice as the host Indians of Burbank (7-4-4, 1-0-1) scored a Foothill League win over the Cowboys (5-7-2, 0-1-0).

--Desert Christian 9, Mojave 1: Adam Sultan and Todd Gilliland scored three goals apiece as the Knights of Lancaster (8-1-1, 4-0) won in High Desert League play.

--Canoga Park 5, Verdugo Hills 0: Jose Gutierrez scored four goals in a Sunset League-opening victory by the Hunters (3-1, 1-0), giving him nine goals in four games.

In girls' water polo water polo, swimming game encompassing features of soccer, football, basketball, and hockey. The object of the game is to maneuver, by head, feet, or hand, a leather-covered ball 27 to 28 in. :

-- Camarillo 5, Rio Mesa 3: Avaa Avedissian and Alyssa Kitchens scored overtime goals for the host Scorpions (2-1, 2-0), who defeated the Spartans of Oxnard for the first time in the sport.

 Hayden was out because of an eligibility issue, as mistakenly reported by Louisville coach Jose Perez. Perez confirmed Tuesday that Hayden has not been playing because of injury.
