DAY IN SPORTS: COC GETS UPSET IN WSC GOLF OPENER.

Freshmen Aaron Conrad and Kyle Thurston led Moorpark College to a three-stroke victory Monday over 11-time Western State Conference champion College of the Canyons in the first WSC golf tournament of the season.

Conrad was medalist at 1-under-par 71 and Thurston shot 72 for the Raiders, whose 379 team total at Valencia Country Club beat host Canyons (382) and third-place Santa Barbara (389).

Sophomores Jake Curtier and Denny Bae shot 73 for Canyons.

BOYS' BASKETBALL

MARMONTE LEAGUE

--Calabasas 72, Thousand Oaks 53: Conrad Fitzgerald, Drew Housman and Mark Einhorn combined for 41 points as host Calabasas clinched a tie for the league title, its first in the program's 30-year history.

The Coyotes can clinch the championship outright with a victory Wednesday against Newbury Park or Friday against Agoura.

OLYMPIC LEAGUE:

--Montclair Prep 54, Calvary Calvary (kăl`vərē) [Lat.,=a skull] or Golgotha (gŏl`gəthə) [Heb. Chapel 44: Marlon Yates (16 points, eight assists, seven steals) keyed a 19-3 fourth quarter run as Montclair Prep of Panorama City (19-7, 5-2), the top-ranked team in Div. IV-A, beat Calvary Chapel of Downey, strengthening its chances of gaining the top seed when Southern Section playoff pairings are announced Sunday.

ALPHA LEAGUE

--Campbell Hall 82, L.A. Baptist 38: Joe Ford posted his first triple-double of the season, finishing with 17 points, 13 rebounds and 11 assists, as host Campbell Hall of North Hollywood (23-0, 7-0) remained perfect.

GIRLS' SOCCER

HORIZON LEAGUE

--St. Genevieve 5, San Gabriel Mission 0: Karen Argueta scored two goals for visiting St. Genevieve of Panorama City (13-3, 8-1), giving her a program-record 31 this season. The previous mark was held by Erin Fitchew, who scored 29 last season.

MISSION LEAGUE

--Chaminade 0, Harvard-Westlake 0: Cody Horn recorded her seventh shutout for visiting Harvard-Westlake of Studio City (8-3-5, 5-0-4), which secured a share of its fourth consecutive league title. Jessica McGovern posted her ninth shutout for Chaminade of West Hills (5-8-6, 3-2-4).

SUNSET SIX LEAGUE

--North Hollywood 2, Verdugo Hills 0: Lara Takasugi and Xiomara Martinez scored for host North Hollywood (15-6-5, 9-0), which clinched its first league title in eight years.
