SACRAMENTO - Its route was precarious through the unforgiving loser's bracket, but the Sports Shack girls' club volleyball team is where it needs to be today.

That turned out to be the easiest match of a grueling afternoon and early evening of volleyball.

``I think we could play another match right now,'' said Courtney Schultz, a standout at Harvard-Westlake who stepped up in each of Sports Shack's loser's-bracket wins over the Arizona Juniors, Asics Rainbow and the Spoilers.

Sixth-seeded Sports Shack was in jeopardy of ending its season earlier than planned after a second-round loss to Empire of Santa Rosa Santa Rosa, city, Argentina

Against both Arizona and Asics Rainbow, Sports Shack lost game one of the best-of-three match but rallied to win the last two.

Sports Shack has an advantage of familiarity. This team basically is intact from the 1999 festival championship run.

``We're all on the same wavelength,'' Hain said.

The Spoilers, who also sent most of the key performers from the 16's level to the 18-year-old division, never threatened Sports Shack in the highly anticipated rematch REMATCH Cardiology Clinical trials–Randomized Evaluation of Mechanical Assistance Therapy as an alternative in Congestive Heart failure–related to use of a portable, electric left ventricular-assist system–LVAS–eg, HeartMate® .

Early kills by Alison Gorny, Ryan, Christina Hinds and Schultz, and a block by Gorny and Schultz, gave Sports Shack a 10-5 advantage in the first game that was never seriously threatened.

``I think we had the confidence to begin the match. They're a great team, and we always expect them to go out hard,'' Hain said. ``We knew we had to go 110 percent. We fought to the last point.''

--Thunder ousted: Thunder Black of Reseda, which played its way from the 22nd seed into the Round of 16, won twice Thursday but was eliminated from championship consideration.

After winning its opener, Thunder's loss to the Spoilers dropped it into the loser's bracket. Saving two match points in the third game, Thunder eliminated X-Cel 18 of Norwalk 25-20, 23-25, 16-14.

Thunder then lost 25-20, 25-9 to Rancho Valley and meets Asics Rainbow of Hawaii in an 11 a.m. consolation match today at the convention center.
