In Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850. , a city councilman said cities should try to regain legal power to control weapons.

Immediately after the shootings, the governor said he would sign additional ``responsible'' gun-control measures.

Davis signed laws last month restricting gun purchases to one a month and tightening a ban on assault weapons by closing a loophole that let manufacturers get around the law by renaming their weapons.

State Assemblyman Jack Scott, D-Pasadena, said he will conduct a public hearing Dec. 2 at Glendale City College on licensing and registration to own assault weapons and handguns.

``As a parent who has lost a child to gun violence, I am all too familiar with the grief that parents and family members go through in the aftermath of these senseless acts of hate,'' said Scott, chairman of the Assembly's Select Committee on Gun Violence.

Los Angeles City Councilman Mike Feuer called Wednesday for the city to try to regain authority to adopt weapon controls.

``Guns, bullets and madmen are terrorizing the people of this nation,'' Feuer said. ``In one spring and half of a summer, five have been wounded in Granada Hills, three have been killed in Pelham Noun 1. Pelham - a bit with a bar mouthpiece that is designed to combine a curb and snaffle

.

``Gun licensing and registration are desperately needed to reduce the level of firearm violence,'' he said.

Feuer's proposal, to be considered by the City Council next week, also would put the city on record in support of stronger state and federal regulation of gun registration and licensing.

He said the state has pre-empted power on gun regulations and should return authority to cities to adopt some of their own.
