DAVIS SEEKS BOOST FOR ANTELOPE VALLEY : LT. GOVERNOR URGES PURSUIT OF DEFENSE CONTRACTS.

Byline: Jim Skeen Daily News Staff Writer

Lt. Gov. Gray Davis urged the Antelope Valley This article is about the Los Angeles County region. For the census-designated place in Wyoming, see Antelope Valley-Crestview, Wyoming.

program to Palmdale and offered to help write a bill to provide tax relief to aerospace companies.

Speaking before the annual Antelope Valley Board of Trade Business Outlook Conference, Davis urged the region's business and government leaders to work to bring production of the joint strike fighter A strike fighter is a fighter aircraft which is also capable of attacking surface targets, including ships. It differs from an attack aircraft in that the aircraft remains a capable fighter.  to California.

``We need to do more work to ensure the jobs come to California and the Antelope Valley,'' Davis said.

Between 2005 and 2030, the Pentagon plans to buy nearly 3,000 joint strike fighters, which are intended to replace the Air Force's F-16 fighter and A-10 attack plane, the Marine's AV-8B Harrier and the Navy's FA-18.

Davis also urged the gathering to make arrangements for a luncheon in Sacramento in which the Antelope Valley can educate legislators on the importance of aerospace to the state as a whole.

Members of the entertainment industry held a similar luncheon a few years ago that was successful in getting legislators attention.

``Sacramento is not as attentive to this industry as it should be,'' Davis said. ``While we haven't paid attention to you, you have not paid enough attention to us.''

In comments after his speech, Davis said he would be willing to work with Assemblyman George Runner George C. Davis said he tried to gather figures on the aerospace industry but was stunned stun

``I want to help put this industry front and center in Sacramento,'' Davis said.

Although both Boeing and Lockheed Martin have plants in Palmdale, where the production jobs would go is not certain. Lockheed Martin builds F-16s in Fort Worth, and Boeing's main operation is in Seattle.

. The two, wearing JetHawks baseball caps backward, opted to sing the praises of the region's economic development efforts in a rap song rather than straightforward speeches.

Roberts said the bit, which had the audience of about 500 laughing, would be more memorable than a speech.

``It shows the community we are together,'' Roberts said.

Rappin toward recovery

LANCASTER - Wearing JetHawks baseball caps turned backward, Palmdale Mayor Jim Ledford and Lancaster Mayor Frank Roberts took the stage at the Antelope Valley Business Outlook Conference to rap about the valley's advantages.

Working to a taped hip-hop instrumental background, here's the mayors' ``Econo-Rap'':

The Antelope Valley's the place to go

For companies that want to grow

We've got workers 'n' training 'n' deals

Even tax incentives - but hey there's more

Take it from these valley boys who know

North L.A.'s the place to grow, the place to grow.

We're close to the city yet on our own

Even the smog folks have left us alone

Lots of new jobs with aeroplanes

We're flying high - feeling no pains

So take it from these valley boys who know

North L.A.'s on the go, on the go

The region's partners all get along

Now we're more than twice as strong

We want your business, that's agreed

And make it simple to succeed.

So take it from these valley boys who know

North L.A.'s the place to grow, the place to grow.

With a zone to help your enterprise

The state's less taxing on the bottom sides

Our learning, lawmen, library, all first class

With JetHawks baseball, pros play on grass

So take it from these valley boys who know

North L.A.'s on the go, on the go.

Opportunities are here to take

Isn't it time you got the break

Listen to what our people say

And make the A.V. your place to stay

'Cuz these valley boys are in the know

North L.A.'s on the go, the place to grow,

On the go, the place to grow
